we can count some amounts,
but not others
we can be sure about some,
but not others
we can reach a certain infinity with some,
but not others
the amount of numbers between zero and one?
infinite.
easy.
0.1, 0.11, 0.111,
and on and on and on
but is that only because we invented numbers?
because we built this infinity into their definition?
now try to count, say, the amount of stuff on your desk
that pencil, that book,
the pages in that book,
the little bits of paper that make up the pages,
and on and on and on
is this amount infinite, too?
or is that just what we settle on
because we don’t quite know how to count it?
one more:
the universe
is it infinite over time?
maybe, if it’s always growing
but if we don’t know that for sure,
if we don’t know if its growth will end,
can it still be infinite?
can it still be infinite if we’re only looking at a snapshot?
if we don’t count future growth?
and looking back at all of this
are these all different types of infinities?
have we counted all of the types?
and if we don’t know,
if we don’t quite know how to count them,
wouldn’t that mean there are infinite infinities?
